Since OS X Lion, Macs have shipped without Java installed, and as an added security measure OS X automatically disables Java if it has been unused for 35 days. Much has already been said and written this week about the iPad mini. I can’t think of much to add to the discussion except to say that I want one, and I know a lot of other people who will want one too.

I’m already starting to see the full-sized iPad as a sort of large print edition of the iPad mini. Sure, if you have weak eyes or you need a larger screen for some specific apps, you might choose a full-sized iPad, but the iPad mini is smaller, lighter, and cheaper. What’s not to like?

I believe this new $329 option will open the wallets of many people who have, until now, ignored the iPad because it was out of their price range.
