Gift guide - apps for kids

I contributed several articles to this year’s Tech Gift Guide in the Globe & Mail. My topic was apps — little programs that run on iPad, iPhone, and Android-based devices.
We divided the apps into several categories. The first list of apps, published today, is the best apps for kids for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch).
“ No wireless. Less space than Nomad. Lame.”
Ten years ago, when Apple introduced the iPod, some people were unimpressed.
Creative’s Nomad player had more storage space, but the iPod could transfer 1,000 songs in less than 10 minutes—30 times faster than any competitor. It was a joy to use, not a chore.
The launch of the iPod was a big bet for a computer company. It seems to have turned out okay for them.
New iPod touch, coming soon!
My son Toby has been saving his money for months to buy a new iPod touch. Now that the new model is shipping, he has finally placed his order from Apple.ca. (Yay for free engraving, free delivery.) Little does he know, he will need another $25 - $50 to buy apps…
His nose is pressed to the window, waiting for the courier to arrive. He won’t get much homework done this week…
